ROTHERWAS RELIEF ROAD AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL DISCOVERY

“This Council resolves to ensure that no irreversible action be taken that would prejudice the potential for appropriate access to this major archaeological site.

That this Council suspend the building of the Rotherwas Relief Road in the area of the archaeological find and land adjacent to it, in order to undertake an independent, external and exhaustive enquiry and report back to Council.

The findings to be made available to all members to consider and vote on at the 9th November meeting of the Council. The report be made available to members and the public at least 21 days prior to the same council meeting.”

This Motion is to be proposed and seconded by Councillor Marcelle Lloyd-Hayes (Tupsley Ward) (Liberal Democrat) and Councillor Terry James (Liberal Democrat Group Leader).

CPRE Herefordshire has campaigned against the Rotherwas Access Road for many years because of the damage to rural character and the encouragement of more traffic.

Dinedor Hill Action Association has launched a legal challenge to Herefordshire Council in the High Court on the funding of the road through executive housing at Bullinghope. The Council went against the advice of the UDP Inspector and it's own consultants in building the road. Government refused to fund the road because it was "poor value" for taxpayers.
